South Carolina Gov. David Beasley recognized the MUSC Department of Human Resources Management’s Human Resources Service Center on Sept. 26 for its support of the S.C. Family Independence Act, an initiative to employ the state’s welfare recipients. Beasley was on campus to address the Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Forum.

Following his speech “Celebrating the South Carolina Works Program,” he recognized the service center for its “Outstanding Commitment and Leadership in Helping Families Become Self-Sufficient.”

The award was in recognition for the efforts of the HRSC staff members in actively recruiting and supporting DSS referrals. The last thing HRSC manager Rise’ Porter-Wolf expected was an award, she said. “It came as a complete surprise.” The Human Resources Service Center was one of four employers recognized and the only state agency. “We’re all very proud of the award,” Porter-Wolf said.
