MUSC Medical Center receives commendation

MUSC Medical Center has been “Accredited with Commendation” by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This is the highest level of accreditation awarded by the Joint Commission, which is the nation’s oldest and largest accrediting body.

Formed in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to improving the quality of the nation’s health care through voluntary accreditation. The Joint Commission’s on-site survey of the MUSC Medical Center occurred in August.

“Receiving Accreditation with Commendation is a significant achievement, one that recognizes exemplary performance by MUSC Medical Center,” says Dennis S. O’Leary, M.D., president, Joint Commission. “The organization should be commended for its commitment to providing quality care to the people in its community.”

“We are extremely pleased to have achieved this designation,” said Stuart Smith, interim vice president for clinical operations and interim CEO of medical center. “Everyone here goes the extra mile on a day-to-day basis to provide the best possible health care to our patients. Receiving Accreditation with Commendation reaffirms our commitment to excellence and serves as an incentive to continue improving our services.”
