MUSC, Trident Tech sponsor clinical labs

MUSC’s Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Occupational Therapy Program and the Trident Technical College’s (TTC) Occupational Therapy Assistant program join forces to establish The Collaborative Sensory Integration Lab. TTC will provide the space, MUSC, the equipment.

Located on TTC’s Palmer Campus, this laboratory is used for student training, continuing education, interdisciplinary collaboration and patient treatment. Its grand opening was on Nov. 8, 1996; since then, the lab housed three workshops including a community parenting workshop. By the end of the month, MUSC’s occupational therapists will be able to treat children with motor skill problems once a week. The primary mission is education. MUSC and TTC want to treat the community while training their students.

Four occupational therapists from MUSC are currently utilizing the facility for educational purposes.

The lab will eventually incorporate physical and speech therapies into the program since the core courses for occupational therapy students include classes from these two curriculums.
