August 1 An on-going summer series of museum tours intorducing museum visitors to Charleston's rich history through the Gibbes collection of paintings, sculpture and works on paper. This tour is offered each Friday at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call 722-2706.

August 3 The American Cancer Society and The Breeze Radio Network Beach, Boogie and Blues have teamed up together for "The Windham Brothers Cancer Marathon" from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Seaside Farms Piggly Wiggly. Food and refreshments will be provided by Piggly Wiggly with a minimum donation of $5. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. August 4 The Lowcountry Photographic Club will have its work on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the North Charleston City Art Gallery located in the Rhodes Center for the Arts at 3107 Firestone Road, North Charleston. August 9 The exhibit "The Middleton Family in Russia 1820-1830" subtitled, "Fêtes, Funerals and Masquerades: Diplomatic Society in Imperial St. Petersburg" will be presented in the Middleton Place House Museum until Sept. 1.

August 19 Mind Your Health series continues from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Institute of Psychiatry Auditorium, located on the corner of President and Doughty Streets. Lonzetta Neal, M.D., will teach individuals how to handle the cravings and irritability that can occur with premenstrual syndrome in this seminar titled "Give Me My Chocolate and Stay Away." The seminars are sponsored by MUSC Institute of Psychiatry and WXLY, Oldies 102.5 FM. To register, call 792-1414.

1997 EnviroFair to be held Aug. 2


The 1997 EnviroFair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 2 at the Joseph Floyd Manor Park, 2106 Mt. Pleasant St. in downtown Charleston. Exhibits include environmental groups, "earth friendly" businesses, government agencies and civic groups. A special display will feature registration for free low-flow toilets and high-efficiency showerheads for residents of the Charleston Enterprise Community. Interested families need to bring a copy of their water bill and current identification to qualify. Refreshments will also be available. The 1997 EnviroFair is sponsored by MUSC's Environmental Hazards Assessment Program, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, MUSC's College of Nursing, Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated and the U.S. Department of Energy. Special volunteering training for Vee's Rainbow


Vee's Rainbow, a new program for children and adolecents with a life threatening illness, will conducting training sessions for volunteers during the month of August. The first session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 5 and Aug. 7 as well as from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. The second session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 14 as well as from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 16. To register for the volunteer training sessions, call Sandy Smalls at 852-2177. Tae Kwon Do accepting students


MUSC's Tae Kwon Do class is accepting applicants interested in the martial arts. The class, open to individuals 13 years and older, will begin at 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and 5:45 p.m. on Friday and are held in the Harper Student Center. The Tae Kwon Do practiced in class is a non-violent, non-contact sport and follows the World Tae Kwon Do Association philosophy of martial arts. Participants do not have to belong to the Wellness Center or have an affiliation with MUSC. Individuals interested in observing the class are welcome to attend. Habitat for Humanity looking for families


Charleston Habitat for Humanity operates through private donations and volunteer labor, building homes for families who otherwise could not afford one. Charleston Habitat for Humanity is currently looking for families needing a home. To qualify, household income should be between $12,000 and $24,000 per year.
