Annual Strut participants to hit walking path

It's time to get out the old walking shoes and start preparing to ãstrut your stuffä in the annual Carolina Children's Charity walkathon known as the Strut. The eight-mile walking event, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Charles Towne Landing. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the Strut beginning at 10 a.m. Each participant must register and raise a minimum of $10.

Companies, businesses, churches, organizations, schools and friends are encouraged to form groups of walkers to participate. There will be free admission to Charles Towne Landing for the day. Water will be furnished at rests areas along the route, and a free lunch will be served to all registered participants at the end of the Strut. Volunteers will be stationed at each checkpoint throughout the way to lend assistance during the event.

The charity uses the funds raised by the Strut to help Lowcountry children with birth defects and disabling diseases. Carolina Children's Charity was formed in 1987 by a group of local volunteers to fill the needs of local children that were not being met by other organizations.

The group is one of a kind, and all the money raised stays in the Lowcountry for children who need assistance. If you know of a Lowcountry family with a child who needs assistance, call the charity office. Grant applications are available at the charity office.

For information on the Strut, call Cathy Brooks at the Carolina Children's Charity office at 763-2640 or call Jane Belcher at 792-2235.
