New smoking cessation program offered

The Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs (CDAP) of MUSC's Institute of Psychiatry has a new quit-smoking treatment program that combines a prescription medication with behavioral group therapy. This program has been proven to be more than twice as successful as other quit-smoking programs.

Each patient's care is supervised by a medical doctor who conducts a complete physical exam and prescribes a medicine that helps the patient quit smoking. This is supported by group therapy sessions where methods to minimize withdrawal and manage cravings are taught.

Individuals interested in learning more about this effective method of smoking cessation are invited to attend a free informational seminar and teleconference from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Institute of Psychiatry Auditorium at the corner of President and Doughty Street. Refreshments will be served.
