Simon Paging System takes place Aug. 9

Hospital Communications upgrade to the Simon Paging System is progressing as scheduled. On Saturday, Aug. 9, at 6 a.m., the services/features of the Simon System will be added or upgraded as follows:

New functions:

1. Five (5) digit paging IDâs will be necessary to accommodate expansion of paging system; one (1) + the current four (4) digit paging ID. Example: paging ID 2000 will be 12000.

2. Voiced Name Verification will provide Voice Response to a dialed ID. Simon will now say name of paged party as well as ID and Status Code for verification of accurate paging.

3. Chained Coverage will provide ability to extend coverage beyond one pager. Example: If John is covered by Sam, and Sam is covered by Bill, a page to John will be received by Bill.

Limits to chain: None.

Exceptions to chain: Cannot be looped, coverage will drop if final point in coverage does not have ãAvailableä status.

4. Pager Status Codes (see Simon Paging System Directory) will remain in place with the following additions and/or changes.

Additions:

Changes:

5. As in the past, messages will be stored. The system upgrade will now allow the caller to receive stored numeric pages through the automated system at 792-0590. Alpha messages will, of course, be provided through the operator.

6. Override dialing will allow callers to override automated messages by dialing ahead. Example: When the upgrade has occurred, a caller will hear the following after dialing 792-0590:

In the future, you do not have to listen to this entire message to page or change your status and can begin entering the ID or status change code as soon as this message begins playing. Please enter the ID to be paged.

Hospital Communications will provide a ÎHOTLINEâ for corrections needed in the Voiced Name Verification system. Should an individualâs name or function be mispronounced, the caller will be directed to the ÎHOTLINE,â at 792-4438, to leave an audix message instructing correct pronunciation. Corrections will be made in a timely manner.

Individuals with questions or wanting to discuss any of these upgrades or new features, call Elizabeth Loy at 792-7992 or Jane Lunn at 792-3099.
