Adopt-A-Camper Campaign held week of Sept. 22

During the week of Sept. 22, MUSC visitors, faculty and staff can sponsor a Camp Bluebird camper through the annual Adopt-A-Camper Campaign. Camp Bluebird representatives will be selling paper bluebirds for $1 in the MUSC cafeteria lobby from Monday, Sept. 22 to Friday, Sept. 26. Sponsors can write a message to the camper on their bird.

The birds are then placed on fichus trees in the lobby of Hollings Cancer Center until Camp Bluebird begins on Oct. 24. There, the bluebirds are hung on the walls in the main meeting room.

Camp Bluebird, to be held Friday, Oct. 24 to Sunday, Oct. 26, is an opportunity for adults with cancer and cancer survivors to spend time away from friends and family and learn how to cope with cancer on both emotional and physical levels.

This yearâs camp theme ăGet on boardä is derived from a theme song written by several Camp Bluebird counselors and campers at a previous camp. While at camp, participants can listen to a storyteller around a campfire on the beach and sing along to guitar music. Guided nature walks, a scavenger hunt and beach picnic are also planned.

The Gin House Boys from MUSC will be performing live music for dancing on Saturday night. Massage, hairstyles, facials and manicures will also be available to campers.

Applications to attend Camp Bluebird are currently being accepted. Space is limited to 52 campers, so interested participants should apply early. For more information on attending Camp Bluebird, or how to sponsor a camper, call Patti Roberts at 792-3364.
