HUMANITIES COMMITTEE
The Humanities Committee invites students, faculty
and staff to submit artistic endeavors to be considered for inclusion in
the second volume of Humanitas, the literary magazine of MUSC. The deadline
for submission is Oct. 1. Please include a cover sheet with your name,
MUSC affiliation, address and telephone number. If you would like the piece
returned include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Entries should be submitted
to Carol Lancaster, 419 Administration/Library. For further information,
contact Lancaster at 792-3212.
LUNG RUN
MUSC's Lung Run will be held on Wednesday, Sept.
24, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Battery. Registration for the half-mile
Fun Run is $5 and the entry form and fee must be postmarked by Sept. 17.
For individuals wanting to run the two-mile race, the fee is $10 and also
must be postmarked prior to Sept. 17. For more information, or to register,

ST. LUKE'S
A concert and dessert reception will be held at
8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at St. Luke's Chapel. Entertainment will be by
the string quartet, Russian Serenade, followed by Kaminsky's desserts and
gourmet coffee. The event is free and is co-sponsored by the Cultural Projects

STUDENT PROGRAMS
A Trent Graphics Poster Sale will be held from
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 and Friday, Sept. 19 at the Library/Administration
Building. Trent Graphics will display and sell a variety of unframed posters
and prints. For information, call 792-2693. On Sept. 27, individuals can
cruise down the Edisto River in a canoe or kayak for $17 per person. Fee
includes transportation, craft, lunch and guide. Call 792-2693 for information.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra returns to the horseshoe at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a free performance.
Workshop to discuss employee
rights to be held
The Office of Diversity is conducting
workshops to discuss the MUSC Equal Employment Opportunity policy and explain
individual employee rights and responsibilities. These workshops are designed
for non-supervisory personnel. All supervisors are encouraged to let as
many employees attend the workshops as possible. It is important that each
employee attend one session. All sessions are from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept.

Nominations being accepted for honorary
degrees, distinguished faculty service awards
It is time to begin the process of selecting
persons to receive:
1) Honorary degrees from MUSC, to be awarded at commencement in May 1998; and
2) MUSC Distinguished Faculty Service awards for 1998-99, to be awarded at the Fall 1998 Faculty Convocation. Honorary Degrees generally go to individuals in the following broad categories:
Distinguished Faculty Service awards are specifically intended to recognize and honor faculty members of MUSC who, during a substantial portion of their careers, have provided exceptional and sustained service and contributions in teaching, research, health care and/or public service to the university and the citizens of South Carolina.
Please consider making nominations of candidates in these categories and submitting them to the Office of the Provost no later than Sept. 30. Copies of nomination forms for the MUSC Distinguished Faculty Service Award may be obtained from the Office of the Provost, 792-3031.

fiction. There is no preference or restriction regarding content.
