NAEB to sponsor higher education week

by Betty A. Craven, Procurement

The National Association of Educational Byers Incorporated (NAEB) sponsors the Buying for Higher Education Week, Sept. 15-19 to recognize purchasing professionals' contribution to higher education.

NAEB has been the professional association for more than 75 years providing campus purchasing professionals with the sensitive and perishable information needed to get the job done. Nearly 1,800 colleges, universities and nonprofit health care organizations are current members.

More than 20 percent of approximately $200 billion spent by colleges and universities is committed through the purchasing department.

Daily purchasing professionals are challenged to acquire the required routine and exotic products, equipment, and/or services educational institutions need to operate. The ultimate goal of purchasing professionals is to provide outstanding service by getting the right product or service at the right price to the right place on time and in compliance with all legal requirements and ethical practice. Higher education has been experiencing many changes through restructuring, reorganizing and downsizing. Purchasing professionals affected by these changes understand the role they must play in a rapidly changing world to help shape the future of higher education.

The Department of Procurement invites everyone to join them in NAEB's promotion, Buying for Higher Education Week, to further expand the awareness of the role purchasing professionals play in higher education.
