September 26 The Friends of the Charleston County Library will hold its 15th Annual Book Sale from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium. More than 40,000 books will be available for sale÷childrens' books and more. Admission is $2 for individuals 13 and older.
October 2 Vox Aeterna is seeking new singers. This 24-voice ensemble specializes in a diverse collection of a Capella and choral/orchestra music from twentieth-century masters like Britten, Howells and Tavener. To schedule an audition, interested persons should call Scott Atwood, artistic director, at 766-6380. Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, Oct. 2.
October 7 MUSC's Nurse Midwifery and Pediatric Center will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. at 159 Rutledge Ave. Find out about prenatal care and birth with nurse-midwives; planing your pregnancy; well-woman check-ups and Pap smears; the new Family Planning Medicaid program; the Best Chance Network÷health care for women ages 50 and older; and pediatric services for children of all ages. Ocotber 7 Mind Your Health series continues from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Institute of Psychiatry Auditorium, located on the corner of President and Doughty streets. Michael R. Johnson, M.D., will teach individuals how to deal with normal sad feelings and how to recognize and get help for depression in this seminar titled "Is It Normal To Feel This Sad?" Shannon's Hope to be held Oct.
11-12
Children grieve differently from adults.
To help children understand their feeling of grief, Hospice of Charleston
is sponsoring Shannon's Hope on Oct. 11 and 12. Shannon's Hope, an overnight
camp for tri-county area children ages six to 15 who have experienced the
death of someone close to them, will be held at Camp St. Christopher on
Seabrook Island. Professionally trained counselors and Hospice of Charleston
volunteers take part in Shannon's Hope offering children an open and fun
environment in which they can express and share their feelings about the
loss of a parent, sibling, grandparent or close friend. Applications must
be received by Sept. 30. For information, call 529-3100.
Civic orchestra in need of new
musicians
The Metropolitan Civic Orchestra is
actively seeking new musicians, especially violin, cello, french horn,
bassoon, trumpet and trambone players. Under the direction of Rex Conner,
this non-profit organization provides an opportunity for Lowcountry citizens
to experience chamber music. Several MUSC alumni, current students and
employees are active members of the orchestra. Rehearsals are at the Middleton
High School band room on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. Interested musicians

Hospice offers bereavement support
group
If you have lost a loved one, Hospice
HomeCare Resources offers a monthly support group to help cope with that
loss. Called Pathfinders, this free bereavement group guides mourners toward
a path of healthy living. The group meets every third Thursday from 6:30
to 7:30 p.m. at 1815 Old Trolley Road, Suite 109 in Summerville. To register

Educator, at 821-4011 or 1-800-775-1392, Monday through Friday, between
8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Habitat for Humanity looking for
families
Charleston Habitat for Humanity operates
through private donations and volunteer labor, building homes for families
who otherwise could not afford one. Charleston Habitat for Humanity is
currently looking for families needing a home. To qualify, household income
should be between $12,000 and $24,000 per year. For more information, call
