Retirement luncheon held for Seymour, Bussey

Today, June 19, Betty Jane Bussey and Catherine Fleming Seymour, Sterile Processing Department (SPD), will be honored during a retirement luncheon.

Catherine Fleming Seymour began work at MUSC on March 14, 1966, and soon became assistant supervisor of central supply in an era when few women were placed in positions of high responsibility, demonstrating her innate ability to excel and her desire to contribute. By 1986, she became a supervisor (medical assistant tech II) in sterile processing and has confirmed her loyalty by providing faithful service to the patients and staff of the Medical University to this day.

Co-workers comment that she has a loving, expressive personality and is always willing to go the extra mile. She embraces a wealth of memories about the history of SPD and the Medical University.

Betty Jane Bussey began work at MUSC on Aug. 22, 1979, soon proving her value as the SPD night supervisor with her unique proficiencies. Her natural interpersonal skills have helped to build a solid reputation for customer service between the SPD and the main OR night staff.

She has been described by co-workers as having the ability to anticipate operating room needs and the expertise to fulfill them on short notice. She has developed many friendships which will live on past the doors of MUSC and will be missed by the SPD staff.
