SGA president welcomes students to MUSC

by Gretchen Wriston, MUSC SGA President

On behalf of the MUSC Student Government Association, I would like to extend a warm welcome! I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to an exciting new school year. Our calendar is already loaded with a variety of activities and entertainment.

Keep your eyes on... Student Lifelines for up-to-date information about all current and future MUSC events. This campuswide newsletter is delivered to your mailbox twice a month. Check it out!

Representatives from all six MUSC colleges... form the Student Government Association. Along with five executive officers, the SGA representatives and several campus organizations work hard to make sure your interests, needs and opinions are heard throughout the university. Therefore, your feedback is critical to making the SGA successful. We meet twice a month to discuss pertinent issues and plan upcoming events. Your college representatives will announce or post updated information about each SGA meeting in order to keep you informed.

SGA Committee Nitty Gritty... The SGA contains four committees which are:

Student Welfare: Chaired by the SGA president, this committee works to improve student well-being on campus (i.e. parking, health services, student safety, etc.)

Academic Affairs: Chaired by the vice president for academic affairs, this committee is involved with academic life (i.e. University Honor Code, financial aid, PACE evaluations, etc.).

Programs: Chaired by the vice president for programs, this committee plans and coordinates social, cultural, and recreational activities. (Again, check out Student Lifelines for up-to-date information).

Service: Chaired by the treasurer, this committee works closely with MUSC Gives Back to promote and coordinate volunteer opportunities both on and off campus.

To become part of MUSC SGA... run to become the SGA representative for your class in the upcoming collegewide election. Contact your dean's office to get election information.

Finally, feel free to contact me at 577-3992, or through email (wristonga@musc.edu) with any of your comments or ideas. The SGA is designed to serve the students, so your feedback is welcome and encouraged. Enjoy this year and I look forward to hearing from you!
