NNICU graduates return to MUSC for reunionMore than 175 children who spent the first days of their lives in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNICU) returned to MUSC on Saturday, May 13 to celebrate with the doctors and nurses who cared for them during their stay. The
Neonatal ICU Reunion 2000, held in the Horseshoe, was complete with all
the trappings of a carnival—cotton candy, Sno-Kones, hamburgers and hot
dogs. NNICU graduates also enjoyed a jump castle, ball crawl, face painting
and the magic of Hokus Pokus the clown.
“It’s so rewarding to see our patients return as strong, thriving children,” said Susan Tanis, R.N., NNICU staff nurse and reunion coordinator. ![]() ![]() Children
treated in the NNICU between October 1996 and January 2000 were invited
to the reunion. Each NNICU graduate who attended received a reunion T-shirt
and a chance to win special prizes in a drawing.
A raffle, with prizes donated from local merchants, was held to raise money for future NNICU reunions.
