receives Beall II Award from National Research Forum
Scott Commins accepted the 1999 James E. Beall II Award in Neuroscience at the National Student Research Forum in Galveston, Texas this past spring. The Pensacola, Fla.-native has completed his third-year Medical Scientist in Training Program. The Beall II Award is presented to a graduate student on a national level for their research contributions in neuroscience. Established more than 40 years ago, the forum was created to gather medical students, interns, residents and graduate students who are working in the biomedical sciences. Commins presented a 15-page manuscript on adipose tissue research using the neural hormone, Leptin. His research studies the communication link with the brain's hypothalamus and the status of fat stores in mice. Commins is currently working in the gastroenterology lab under Thomas Gettys, Ph.D., Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. |
