Housekeeping staff deserves recognitionResponsible for two million square feet, University Housekeeping is dedicated to providing a clean, hygienic, attractive and safe environment for our patients, students, guests, staff and community. From Sept. 12 to 18, University Housekeeping's 125-member staff celebrates International Housekeeping Week. The theme for 1999 is “Solving Tomorrow’s Problems Today Through Pride.” “The present trend of modern medicine is toward prevention,” said William Bobo, housekeeping supervisor zone 1. “Clean food, clean water, and clean environment. Housekeepers are at the cutting edge of it, because our duties are crucial to good public health.” A cleaner environment contributes to a more favorable learning experience for students, increased productivity for staff with fewer complaints of illness, and a general sense of well being. “Imagine what it would be like if nobody was cleaning the hospital, university, public building, and streets for a week or two,” said Bobo. “It’s important to remember housekeeping is everybody’s job.” |
