CARE program salutes courteous employeesThe Ambulatory CARES Program (Customers Always Receive Excellent Service) was started in the fall of 1999.Zandreia Coakley, Pediatric Cardiology/ENT, standing, was recognized for helping a mother with her child get back to her car. This program of competent care and courteous attention now begins its second phase, “Caring for Ourselves–Caring for Others.” In this session, participants examine ways that staff attitude and staff job satisfaction affect customer service. They will identify personal and work stressors, distinguish between healthy and unhealthy coping strategies, learn tips for time management, and explore ways to work effectively with team members. Another facet of Ambulatory CARES is the “Caught in the Act of Caring” rewards and recognition program. Participants never know when they may be spotted in the midst of a caring act with a customer and be awarded an “I CARE” button. These small red buttons provide immediate feedback to MUSC staff and proclaim the motto of the Ambulatory CARES Program—that “I CARE.” Individuals who have been caught in the act of caring include: Robbi
