First honor graduate to receive Ivy Award
Matthew Bryan A native of Greenville, Bryan completed his undergraduate studies at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biology. Bryan’s grandfathers, Drs. Henry Bryan and Ben Everett, practiced in urology and obstetrics and gynecology in Memphis. Bryan will begin a residency in dermatology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Services Center. Upon completion, he plans to enter private practice. The Ivy Award was founded by Tracy Davis Gage, M.D., in honor of his grandfather, Dr. Henry Davis Ivy. Ivy was the 1880 valedictorian of the Medical College of South Carolina. Bryan will add the Ivy Award to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society award, South Carolina Medical Association Scholarships and the Thomas W. Holbrook Award for highest GPA in pathology, immunology and microbiology during his second year. Bryan said he was pleased to have reached his goal of getting the best
training at MUSC and aspires to do his best as a clinician.
