Roundtable discussion to be held
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will hold a Research Roundtable
discussion from 10:30 a.m. to noon today, May 26, in the Institute of Psychiatry
Auditorium.
Topics to be discussed are:
-
Pros and cons of modular research grant applications
-
MUSC expenditures defined as indirect cost items
-
When indirect cost items can be budgeted as direct cost items
-
The four-step test for grant expenditures
-
What auditors are looking for
Here are a few statements of concern roundtable organizers expect
to cover:
-
“Other support” is no longer required at the time of application.
-
A checklist is no longer required in a modular grant application.
-
On a modular grant total direct costs should not exceed $250,000 per year
in any year: False.
-
The page limit for the biographical sketch has been increased from two
to three pages to accommodate information on research projects relevant
to the submitted application.
-
In a modular budget application the role of each key person should be described,
percent effort provided and salary required for that period.
-
Total direct costs will be requested in $25,000 increments
-
Consortium and contractual costs should be provided with an estimate of
total costs (direct plus F&A) rounded to the nearest $25,000.
-
Budget justifications should indicate whether each collaborating institution
is foreign or domestic.
-
A variation in the number of modules requested in different years should
be described and justified by providing additional budget information.
