Storm
Eye Institute wall honors donors
The
new Donor Wall in the first floor lobby of the Storm Eye Institute was
dedicated May 30. Each plaque on the wall represents a gift of at
least $5,000 to the Storm Eye Institute, with the total dollar value of
the gifts represented on the wall being $19 million. Posing in front of
the wall are from left: Theodora Feldberg, Stanley Feldberg, Dr. M. Edward
Wilson Jr., professor and chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology,
and Ellen Hamrick, director of development for Ophthalmology. Among the
Feldbergs' donations to the Storm Eye Institute was a gift of $450,000
to establish a Visual Rehabilitation Center in the institute.
A plaque recognizing their gift is among those on the wall. The center
is designed to help people with significant vision loss, yet not totally
blind. Low vision ranks third, following arthritis and heart disease,
among the most common chronic conditions requiring assistance for daily
living for the elderly.
The funds donated by the Feldbergs' provide equipment necessary to evaluate
and habilitate patients of all ages and from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
The patients are introduced to devices and techniques that significantly
enhance the quality of their lives.
