Dr. Halushka named dean of College of Grad StudiesPerry V. Halushka, M.D., Ph.D., has been named dean of the College of Graduate Studies at the Medical University of South Carolina. The appointment is effective July 1.Dr. Perry V. Halushka A professor of Cell and Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and Medicine and an MUSC faculty member since 1972, Halushka directs the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. Since 1987 he has also been director of the Medical Scientist Training Program, which enables students to obtain both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. Halushka is nationally and internationally known for his research in the role of prostaglandins and thromboxanes in platelet functions and cardiovascular disease. He has had more than 200 scientific articles published in peer reviewed journals and has written 49 invited reviews and book chapters. Halushka is the recipient of many awards, most notably the Burroughs-Wellcome
Scholar in Clinical Pharmacology Award and the first Pharmaceutical Research
and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) Foundation Clinical Pharmacology Award
in Excellence.
