MUSC is home of spinal cord injury research boardThe South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund, collected from DUI convictions, has an estimated $1 million per year available for grants and contracts to conduct spinal cord research that will directly benefit the people of South Carolina.“Researchers throughout the state are welcome to submit proposals for these monies,” said Spinal Cord Injury Research Board chairman Brian G. Cuddy, M.D. Legislation, which was signed July 20, 2000, specifies that the fund would be derived from a surcharge of $100 on each driving-under-the-influence conviction in the state. It established the seven-member Spinal Cord Injury Research Board to administer the fund and attached the board to MUSC for meeting, staff and administrative purposes. “We would like to request your involvement in our work,” Cuddy said in a letter circulated to health care professionals statewide. “Specifically, we would like to know if you are interested in receiving general information about the fund and its ongoing goals, if you would like to receive “Requests for Proposals” for research grants to be awarded from the fund, and if you would like to serve as a reviewer of research grant proposals SCIRF will be receiving.” State of South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund Please provide the following information and return to Walker Coleman, fund administrator, MUSC President's Office, P.O.
