Brady chosen to receive Betty Ford AwardKathleen Brady, M.D., Ph.D., Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been chosen by the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) to be this year’s Betty Ford Award recipient. The Betty Ford Award is given to an individual who has played a significant role in the treatment and recovery of drug dependent individuals, particularly women. Brady also received an invitation from the University of Michigan as the designated presenter for this year’s McDonnell Lectureship. This lectureship was established in memory of one of the early providers of alcoholism and other substance abuse services in the southeast Michigan area. McDonnell started his own clinics, had an appreciation of the importance of research, was concerned about the relative lack of knowledge most physicians have about substance abuse and especially alcoholism, and wanted to do something about it. She has agreed to accept the lectureship, which is planned for Nov.
