MUSC is a progressive center for medical education, research and service delivery located in historic Charleston, South Carolina. It is comprised of the University Medical Center and six academic colleges: health professions, dental medicine, graduate studies, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy. It is the major referral center for health care and health sciences research in the state. Charleston, with a rich 300-year heritage, is one of America’s most beautiful and historic cities. A rapidly growing port city with an area population of nearly 500,000, Charleston has retained its historic charm through an active program of architectural preservation. Located on a peninsula, the city is an active resort area with beaches, tennis courts, and golf courses located throughout the area.
