Computer Tip of the Week

Accessing diagnoses, procedures and other encounter information in OACIS.

In OACIS, the Encounters service column provides information about patient visits. Double-click under the ENC (encounters) column for a specific patient, and a list of every inpatient visit (since June 1993) and every outpatient visit (since 1994) will display.

Need to know more about a specific visit?
  • For insurance information, go to the far right of the encounter list and find the column labeled INS. Double click on the asterisk under the column for the appropriate visit.
  • Demographics are just as easy to find. As with insurance, go to the right, look for DEM, and double click on the asterisk.
  • To open an encounter detail window, double click on Principal Diagnosis. Here, you’ll see a list of all diagnoses and corresponding ICD-9 codes as well as procedures and the provider who performed them.
