PT
students elected to National Student Assembly
Adam Smith and Natasha Johnson, third-year College of Health Professions
Physical Therapy (PT) students, are the new president and director, respectively,
of the National Student Assembly. Elections were held at the American Physical
Therapy Association (APTA) student conclave held recently in Birmingham,
Ala.
A record 900 students from across the nation came to attend educational
seminars and discuss professional issues facing new physical therapists.
MUSC was recognized as the school with the highest attendance, thanks to
the 60 PT students who endured the eight-hour overnight bus trip.
The entire third-year PT class has been active on both state and national
levels, preparing to take a leadership role in their profession. For example,
students Smith, Johnson and Leigh Woodman, along with the rest of their
classmates, were instrumental in the recently established South Carolina
Student Special Interest Group.
The new group, officially recognized by both the South Carolina Physical
Therapy Association and the APTA, provides a forum for students across
the state to discuss professional issues.
