MUSC's Dr. Ranjit Rajah loses fight to cancer Nov. 22Ranjit Rajah, M.D., 48, of Charleston, associate professor in radiology at MUSC, passed away on Nov. 22 after losing his five-year battle with cancer. He was born in Chunnakam, Sri Lanka, on Aug. 15, 1954. He was the eldest son of Sivanesam and Sarvanamuttu Rajah. Dr. Rajah graduated as Doctor of Medicine from the University of Sri Lanka in 1980, and left for United Kingdom in 1981. He obtained his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1981. Dr. Rajah is survived by his wife, Bharathy, and two sons, Harry Nirojan and Vibushan, of Charleston. Dr. Rajah is also survived by his mother Sivanesam Rajah of Sri Lanka, his three brothers: Jeyadevan of Canada, Mahinda Janapriyanesa of United Kingdom, and his sister Rajani Kiritharan of Sri Lanka. We in academic medicine tend to pride ourselves in our ability
to teach. Dr. Rajah taught us many things—not only radiology but how to
face life and death with a quiet calm and dignity that we can only hope
to emulate. In addition academics also are infamous at times for their
egos. Dr. Rajah had no ego. He was the ultimate team player.
