Letters
to Dr. Ray Greenberg, MUSC staff
Since becoming president, I (we) have received many letters commending
our faculty and staff for outstanding patient care. These letters, or excerpts
from letters, from patients and their families provide ample evidence of
their high regard for our clinical services. I am pleased to share some
of them with you, and recognize those who are providing skilled and compassionate
care.
Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I have been very impressed with the care I have received from Dr. Ross
Rames in the urology department. Dr. Rames, his administration, and clinical
staff have done a great job taking care of my needs in a compassionate
and professional manner. My husband, also had a positive experience in
January under the care of Dr. Nabil Bissada, also in the urology department.
My husband was very impressed with the efficiency of the surgical procedure
from beginning to end as well as the attentive nursing care he received.
We are very glad we chose MUSC for our health care needs.
Dear Ray:
On behalf of the South Carolina Aquarium, I want to express my deepest
thanks to the Medical University of South Carolina for its extraordinary
support of Community Appreciation Days 2002 on Jan. 19, 20, and 21.
More than 36,000 children and adults visited the Aquarium during the three-day
event; a significant number of them belong to the Medical University community.
Dear Margaret Robertson:
Our son had surgery at MUSC. I just know I will not find the
time to sit down and write about all of the wonderful staff MUSC
has, so I am hoping that you will relay my message to those that touched
our lives and our hearts.
The staff is so wonderful it’s hard to describe how grateful we are
for their empathy, compassionate caring attitudes, professional manner,
general helpfulness and just they way they made us feel so very comfortable
while we were there.
There are so many people that we want to thank but cannot remember all
of their names. Dr. Lambert, Dr. Judith Sconer (chief resident), Dr. Wallace
(anesthesiologist) who came out three to four times during surgery to tell
us where they were and how our son was doing, it was so kind of him. Thanks
to Lynn Vogel (nurse anesthesiologist), Jeff, a nurse anesthesiologist
student, Rev. Murdock, and Chenique Grant in PACU. We cannot say enough
about all of the wonderful care these individuals gave our son and the
way they comforted us during his stay. Everyone was fantastic and so nice!
Dear Dr. Raymond Greenberg:
My wife underwent a resection of a brain tumor by Dr. Sumil Patel.
We both want to express to you and your staff our sincerest thanks for
the excellent care she received. Dr. Patel’s unique combination of
skill and caring is a rare joy to the patient. The nurses on the
floor were very caring, responsive, and cheerful and made her short stay
as enjoyable as a hospital can be.
Dear Christine Strange:
I would like to thank you for your professionalism, attitude of excellence,
and the quality services you provided me. We are fortunate to have a person
of your caliber at the MUSC Department of Otolaryngology.
Dear Dr. Raymond Greenberg:
I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you my recent positive
experience at MUSC's Alternative and Complementary Medicine Clinic. My
husband has been seeing Gary Nestler for several years to treat his spinal
arthritis condition. And for years I have heard from my husband how amazing
it is that he is living with this condition without any medication.
After dealing with my own physical problems, and the cycle of pills
and their side effects, I decided to give acupuncture a try. Gary was not
only interested in the problems that I had described to him but also about
my big picture. What a novel approach—to deal with the whole person, inside
and out. I am new to all of this as of the past month, but the results
are amazing enough that I wanted to tell you (and all of my friends and
colleagues). I feel so much better.
I am so glad to know that MUSC is supportive of the alternative and
complementary medicine clinic.
Dear Dr. Raymond Greenberg:
I wish to commend the MUSC Medical Center and Hollings Cancer Center
on the excellent patient care that I have received. My inpatient stay during
my stem cell transplant was one of the shortest because of the excellent
care of Dr. Deborah Frei-Lahr, my attending, and the superb nurses on 8
West (Laura Milligan, Laura Perdue, and Nancy Adams) who exceeded my expectations
because of their extensive clinical knowledge and experience. I am convinced
their keen observations and busy hands led to my good fortune and ultimate
early discharge. The support form the laboratory, radiology, pharmacy,
and respiratory therapy has also been most impressive; these departments
keep cancer patients and their caregivers well informed and are there with
continuous assistance. I shall always be grateful to the team on 8 West
who cared for my family and me. I sincerely believe they do this
day in and day out for all their patients in a respectful and concerned
manner.
I have the highest praises for the HCC Day Treatment Center. My
visits to the HCC Day Treatment have enabled me to recover in my home with
my family, receive “cutting edge” therapies, and appropriately access patient
care resources in both an efficacious and economic manner. Dr. Frei-Lahr
has again directed excellent physician care with the assistance of Dr.
Asheesh Lal. My nursing care in Day Treatment has also been spectacular
with Gwen Pinckney, who was my assigned nurse.
Dear Drs. Raymond Greenberg and Richard DeChamplain:
As a patient of the Veterans Administration Hospital I was referred
to the MUSC Dental College, Department of Oral Surgery for diagnosis and
treatment of an agonizing and chronic facial pain possibly associated with
TMJ.
As a result of Dr. Steven Evelhoch’s diagnosis and fitting of a stent
I have had relief from the pain for several months, and now able to discontinue
its use. I was most impressed with Dr. Evelhoch’s professional immediate
and accurate diagnosis, along with fitting of a stent. In addition to his
medical skills, it was readily apparent that he possesses an unusual doctor
to patient relationship by his attention, politeness, consideration, and
ability to put a patient at ease. This is no easy feat for the dental world
with “we cowards.” Although my contacts were limited, it was obvious that
the oral surgery personnel, technical and administrative, along with the
doctors were truly eager to help when and where possible. In that area
I would like to call your attention to name a few: Mary Helzer, Lisa
Sauls, and Jennifer Cleary.
Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I want you to know how pleased I was with the treatment I received
during my stay at MUSC. Under Allen Johnson’s general supervision, I felt
the care was superior in every respect. Equally impressive was the attitude
of the staff–from the orderlies to the nurses, they were all cheerful,
helpful, and indicated to me a high degree of morale. MUSC is an institution
of which we can all be proud.
Dear Dr. Raymond Greenberg:
I am writing to praise the services of the office of complementary
and alternative medicine at 30 Bee and now also within the new East Cooper
Women’s Center. As a faculty nurse-midwife, I have long been aware of the
public’s interest in alternative providers and I am pleased that the university
is actively expanding these options for patients.
After developing a vexing health problem of my own, I accessed all of
my traditional resources here at MUSC. Each provider is superb in their
approach to my car and has an essential role in my recovery. However, based
upon recommendations from more than a few, (including some MUSC employees),
I arranged a consultation with Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
Each member of the staff evaluates my response to treatment. I experienced
the pain relief that acupuncture and neuromuscular massage can deliver.
The reception staff is warm and welcoming and readily schedules appointment
to my needs. I can highly recommend it to my own patients without hesitation.
Dear Dr. Greenberg:
This is to express our appreciation for the superb care given my wife
by Dr. William Spencer and his fine staff of Donna Killip, Tom Hennessee,
Mary Washington and Arcina Suber. We are fortunate to have a world class
professional like Dr. Spencer and his fine staff available to us.
