Meet...Myrtle

Name: Myrtle Edwards.

Department: Labor and Delivery.

How long at MUSC: Six years and I love it.

Where you were born: Elizabethtown, N.C.

Family: Husband, Clint; son, Lawrence, 18; daughter, Charissa, 16, and family pet, Bear, a doggie.

Favorite song: “How Great Thou Art” by Carl Boberg, 1859-1940. The lyrics of this traditional hymn has brought much comfort to my soul and spirit throughout the years during good and bad times.

Fondest childhood memories: As a young child, my dad saw how much I loved strawberries. He gave me a strawberry patch of my own to tend. Another memory I have is that when I was 9 years old, I wanted to learn to play the piano. My dad bought me an old, upright piano for $35. I am proud to say, I taught myself to play and took a few private lessons to enhance my learning experience. I began playing for the little country church when I was 10 years old, and have played for churches, choirs, and groups throughout the years.

Person I admire most: My mother. She made all her children feel like they were her favorite child, but in my heart, I knew she loved me most (ha ha).She was my best friend, and I miss her very much.

Where did I get my nursing degree:  MUSC College of Nursing.

What made me decide to go into nursing:  There was a void in my life. I wanted to really impact people and make a difference.

Biggest challenge: Balancing time between work and home.

Idea of a perfect vacation: To go on a cruise with my husband. That dream came true when I was awarded MUSC Nurse of the Year.

Favorite quotes: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

Silly but fun: My immediate family has fun making up words and sounds that are not real words but they have meaning to us. This is really crazy!
