COP's Clark receives ASHP’s Francke Medal

Toby Clark, College of Pharmacy associate professor, was honored in June for his significant contributions to international pharmacy with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacy’s (ASHP) Donald E. Francke Medal. Clark was presented with the award during ASHP’s Summer Meeting in San Diego.

Clark currently serves as adjunct faculty at MUSC’s College of Pharmacy and as a clinical professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Clark has served on the faculties of several colleges of pharmacy, including as clinical associate professor at the University of Houston, where he was also the director of the Masters of Science in Hospital Pharmacy program. He served as the director of hospital pharmacy services at UIC Medical Center from 1991-2000.  His time at UIC Medical Center also included an interim term as the assistant hospital director for Administration and the Eye/Ear Infirmary.

Clark is founder and president of Toby Clark Associates, a pharmacy management consulting firm that advises hundreds of healthcare vendor and provider organizations on a broad spectrum of pharmacy management topics, including drug cost reduction, the use of pharmacy benefit managers, and implementing clinical services.

“Toby Clark is an eloquent spokesperson for pharmacy both at home and abroad,” said Henri R. Manasse Jr., Ph.D., ASHP executive vice president and chief executive officer. “We are proud to present him with this well-deserved honor.”

The Donald E. Francke Medal was established in 1971 to honor individuals who have made significant international contributions to health-system pharmacy.  The ASHP Board of Directors selects recipients upon unanimous vote.
