Meet...Claudia

Name: Claudia Lucia Rocha.

Year and school: Fourth year College of Graduate Studies, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

City you were born: Bogota, Colombia.

Favorite dish: Ajiaco: it's a chicken stew served traditionally on Sundays.

Fond childhood memory: Holiday celebrations at home over the nine days before Christmas.

Biggest challenge: Getting done with my Ph.D.

Most rewarding thing about what you do: It is very satisfying to be able to solve a problem. I am working now in trying to understand the mechanisms of infection caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Favorite reading: I just finished reading Harry Potter (#5) and now I am reading a really interesting book about prominent Latin American women.

Most interesting job you ever had: Working with Professor Patarroyo, the director of the Colombian Instituto de Immunologia. He developed the  first synthetic vaccine against malaria. I participated in the clinical and field studies. The prototype resulted in a 40 percent reduction of incidence of malaria in Colombia.

Words of advice: My dad taught me to respect others and work hard.
