AOA award presented to Gabriel Virella

Gabriel Virella, M.D., Ph.D., professor of microbiology and immunology, received the Robert J. Glaser Award from the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. The award will be presented during the annual meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

The award—named for long-time AOA executive secretary Robert J. Glaser, M.D.—recognizes medical school faculty members who have distinguished themselves as outstanding medical student educators.

The AAMC represents the 126 accredited U.S. medical schools; the 16 accredited Canadian medical schools; 400 major teaching hospitals, including more than 70 Veterans Affairs medical centers; more than 105,000 faculty in 96 academic and scientific societies; and the nation’s 66,000 medical students and 97,000  residents.
