Students work to increase awareness of immunizations

by Laura Stanley
ASP Special Projects Coordinator
The Academy of Students of Pharmacy just completed its promotional campaign, Operation Immunization, to increase community awareness of immunizations.

Students distributed posters for public display to 40 pharmacies in the local area that stressed the importance of immunizations.

On Oct. 25 pharmacy students distributed free immunization information to adults and children outside of the Folly Road Wal-Mart.  The students were able to reach a wide population at this location and were able to advise the public on where the proper vaccinations could be obtained.

On Nov. 1, ASP members participated in the Community Health Day at Longshoreman’s Hall.

Students counseled patients on the vaccinations they needed and also helped nurses register patients for the flu and pneumonia shots.

This year, the Academy of Students of Pharmacy was able to increase immunization awareness of the residents of the Charleston area more than ever before with Operation Immunization.
