MUSC, CNPS hosts first digital review exam

The Clinical Neurophysiology Service recently hosted the national registry exams for technologists in the field of electroencephalography (EEG) and evoked potentials (EP).

The examining agency, American Board of Registration in electro-encephalographic and evoked potential technologists (ABRET) selected MUSC and the CNPS department to host the first digital record review exam.

As the host facility, management and staff were responsible for coordinating candidates, examiners, clinical space and instrumentation, and support services for the two-day event. Nearly 100 technologists and physicians were on campus for the exams.

Following successful completion of a written examination, technologists participate in oral and practical exams in EEG and EPs that are staged regionally in the United States. Candidates for EEG are evaluated on electrode measurement and application, recording concepts, and record review. The EP candidate is required to demonstrate technical competency in the performance of auditory, visual and sensory EPs. Successful candidates are awarded the respective registry credential.

In addition to orchestrating the preparations for ABRET, Marc Williams, Clinical Neurophysiology Services manager, and Candis Spivey, staff technologist, were successful exam candidates. Williams offered special thanks to the CPNS staff.
