Radiothon exceeds $103,000 markThe first-ever MUSC Children’s Hospital radiothon was a big success thanks to the tireless efforts of CH staff and organizers, Coast 92.5 radio and the generous hearts of Lowcountry neighbors and beyond.Radiothon volunteers man the phones during the Dec. 4 - 6 event which was held in the Children's Hospital Lobby. One-year-old Tyler Furches and mom, Mary, chat with Coast 92.5 radio personality, Michael Todd, Tyler's father. Tyler was born prematurely. Todd credits MUSC for his child's survival. All in all, the event exceeded everyone’s expectations netting a total of $103,554 in donations, the largest amount raised by a Charleston-area radio station. For three days, the CH lobby was transformed into a bustling nerve center of life and hope as volunteers answered pledge calls and Coast 92.5 radio personalities Richard Todd, Atom Taler and MacKenzie Clark shared true life stories of courage and strength from dozens of patients and their families. Organizers with the CH Fund wish to thank its generous area sponsors and more than 185 volunteers who answered phones, ran errands, and conducted other tasks to ensure the event's success. As a result of the radiothon, 15-year-old Matthew, a CH patient received
an early Christmas/birthday present. Grady Auto Sales in North Charleston
donated a car to him. Matthew lost circulation to all of his limbs and
as a result his feet were amputated from the heels down due to a severe
virus which attacked his heart. He has been treated and continues to receive
care at MUSC.
