Distinguished Alumni Award given to Millsby Heather M. WoolwinePublic Relations Jack Mills, Ph.D., of MUSC's Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, received the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2002-03 from the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of Iowa. Iowa’s department is ranked number one in its category by U.S. News and World Report. Each year since 1985, the award has been given to an alumnus of the department whom the current faculty unanimously recommends. Only the second graduate from audiology to receive this honor, Mills was picked from a large number of University of Iowa graduates, many of whom have gained national and international reputations for research and clinical expertise. Mills published more than 30 times during a career spanning decades. With MUSC since 1982 as a professor in the Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences department, he received his bachelor’s and master's degrees from the University of Montana in Missoula. He attained numerous fundings and grants from the National Institutes
of Health and has chaired site visits and special reviews for projects
around the country. He also provided research support to the Army, Navy
and Air Force, Federal Aviation Authority, and the National Security Agency.
