COM receives national accreditation for CME

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) has granted four years’ accreditation to the MUSC College of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Medical Education as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.

Along with the accreditation, the office also received exemplary compliance in the area of educational design, specifically needs assessment. ACCME accreditation means that MUSC can continue to certify educational activities for category one credit of the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA/PRA).

ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that continuing medical education activities provided by MUSC meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements and Policies for Accreditation as specified by the ACCME. The ACCME rigorously evaluates the overall continuing medical education programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all seven sponsoring organizations of the ACCME: these are: the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards.

The Office of CME offers a full range of continuing medical education courses, printed and other forms of enduring materials, and web-based education to physicians and other health professionals at MUSC, within the State of South Carolina, regionally and nationally,  through partnerships with organizations throughout the U.S. and worldwide.

For more information, contact the Office of CME at 876-1925. For a listing of activities, visit http://www.musc.edu/cme.
