Awards recognize dedication to rural health careDedication to improving health care in rural South Carolina was the basis of two awards presented by the South Carolina Rural Health Association to the MUSC.The organization presented the MUSC Physician Assistant (PA) Program with its 2003 Excellence in Education Award, and the MUSC Deans’ Rural Primary Care Clerkship with its 2003 Outstanding Community Health Project Award. The PA program is committed to improving access to quality health care
in rural South Carolina and works with statewide organizations to sponsor

The Deans’ Rural Primary Care Clerkship provides an opportunity for every third year medical student to work in a small town in South Carolina. The experience includes making home visits and participating in community-oriented health projects. The South Carolina Rural Health Association is a not-for-profit, grassroots
membership-based organization whose mission is to do work for the preservation
and enhancement of the health of all rural South Carolinians. It serves
as an advocate for rural health care providers and communities throughout
the state.
