MUSC Celebrates our Stars

Nurses Week Activities May 6 through 11

The theme for this year's nursing week is “MUSC Celebrates our Stars,” recognizing MUSC star nurses everywhere.
Events
Tuesday, May 6: Star Award Ceremony: 2003 Nurse of the Year Awards. 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Storm Eye Institute Auditorium. 

Unit winners nominated by their peers will be honored at this celebration event. Family, friends, nurse managers, directors, all hospital staff employees are invited to attend the ceremony to recognize these award winners. Come find out who is the 2003 MUSC Nurse of the Year winner with reception to follow.

Wednesday, May 7: Star Performers Ice Cream Social. 1 to 6 p.m.
All nursing staff will be celebrated with management serving ice cream sundaes in style by a roving ice cream cart. Cart departs at 1 p.m. going floor to floor scooping ice cream. Cart will be set up in the Children's Hospital lobby at 4:30 p.m. to serve any nursing department outside of the main hospital.

Wednesday, May 7: Twilight Star Pizza Party. Midnight. 
Twilight star workers will be celebrated with free pizzas delivered to the units.

Thursday, May 8: Catch a Star.
 Photos of all Nurse of the Year winners will be displayed in the “Hall of Stars” walkway leading to the cafeteria. Winners' photos will also be displayed on the hospital intranet. Randoms shots of hospital star nurses will be displayed throughout the hospital.

Friday, May 9: Shooting for the Stars. 6:30 to 10 a.m. Have breakfast while listening to a presentation. 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Free lunch while you learn. Both events are held at the Basic Science Building Auditorium.

Come listen to the speakers update participants on the latest regarding MUSC's goal of attaining Magnet Status Designation of a Health Care Organization. 

Magnet Designation is an award recognizing Excellence in Nursing Service. Magnet status is the highest level of recognition that the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) can accord to organized nursing services in the national and international health care communities.
