Ambulatory Care Services recognizes AREA winners

Each quarter, Ambulatory Care Services recognizes selected employees who demonstrate the organization’s values of Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Adaptability. Staff members who have received an “Applause for Caring” card during the quarter are automatically eligible for the AREA Award.

First quarter 2003 AREA Award recipients are:

  • Georgia T. Huger, Family Medicine
  • Paul R. Lambert, M.D., Otolaryngology
  • Tess M. Morris, R.N., Hollings Cancer Center
  • Christine B. Schaub, R.N., Bone Marrow Transplant
Huger was recognized by both an employee and a patient.  She is said to “always display compassion for patients and presents Family Medicine in a great light.”  Her patient also said she was “wonderful” and that she was “amazed and impressed” with the customer service she received.

Lambert was recognized by a number of patients.  Some of their comments included:  “Dr. Lambert is very impressive. He was extremely thoughtful, compassionate, and caring. His explanations were clear and easy to understand.” “Dr. Lambert is an excellent physician who is a valuable asset to this hospital. The staff and nurses also worked to exceed patient’s expectations.”

Tess was applauded by a number of her coworkers.  She steps in on many occasions when a coworker needs a hand or when someone needs her to cover a clinic.  She is quick to notice when another team member is stressed and does what she can to relieve that stress.

Schaub was applauded by the husband of one of her patients. Not only did she provide “compassionate concern and care,” before, during, and after his wife’s bone marrow transplant, but also, she took the initiative to attend sign language classes in order to be able to communicate with her patient.  She also pioneered the provision of professional sign language interpreter services at Hollings Cancer Center.

The Ambulatory Care Prize Patrol surprised each of these individuals in his/her practice setting. Each recipient received an AREA Award badge holder, a framed certificate, a “Be My Guest” dining card in the amount of $50 and a cake to share with his/her coworkers.
