Letters of gratitude to MUSC staff, faculty

MUSC  receives many letters commending faculty and staff for outstanding patient care. These letters, or excerpts from letters, from patients and their families provide ample evidence of their high regard for our clinical services.

Dear Mr. (Stuart) Smith:
Thank you for your support of the American Red Cross. As director on the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter’s board, you help ensure vital services are provided across South Carolina, such as disaster preparedness and relief, CPR/first aid and other lifesaving training, and emergency communications between members of the military and their families. Under your leadership, the Red Cross is there, helping those in need.

As a regular blood donor and supporter of the Donor Room in the Medical Center at MUSC, you have sent a significant and lasting message to the staff and students- that giving blood is one of the most important and selfless gifts a person can give. Following your lead, hundreds of generous blood donors have visited the Donor Room to share this gift more than doubling the volume of blood donations during the previous year!
Now, more than ever, it is critical that the country’s community leaders support local efforts to maintain the nation’s blood supply. I hope you will share my appreciation with the entire MUSC community for its impressive support.
-- Marty Evans, CEO national Red Cross

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I am writing to express my gratitude for the wonderful professional and caring service provided by the Medical University of South Carolina, before, during, and after my wife's knee surgery.
Assistant professor Harry A. Demos, M.D., performed the operations and I cannot say enough good  about this wonderful doctor.
Additionally Amy King, R.N., of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery guided and coordinated the pre and post operative process in a truly exceptional fashion.
Thank you again for your dedication and theirs to the health care profession.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
After a visit to a hospital in our area (Georgia), it was clear that my wife's condition was not improving and that we needed to locate a facility specializing in the treatment of scleroderma. After doing a search through the Scleroderma Foundation, we found MUSC. We quickly got a flight to Charleston and were seen by Dr. Marcy Bolster.

I have been actively involved in health care marketing for 20 years and I was most impressed by MUSC. The trip was scheduled within three days of our inital contact with Dr. Richard Silver and everything went very smoothly.

I was told that MUSC was “the place to go” for my wife's treatment. The statement holds true and it shows in the professionalism and compassionate care we have received.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I want to let you know of the extraordinary care that my father-in-law received at MUSC.His odyssey began a little more than a year ago with some word finding abnormalities. After failing to find the right diagnosis at another hospital, I brought  him to see Dr. David Bachman. He made the correct but unfortunate diagnosis of a multiforme glioblastoma. We then saw Dr. Sunil Patel and were scheduled for surgery the next day. These two physicians gave us truly remarkable care. They were unstintingly kind, gracious, generous and human. MUSC is lucky to have these two physicians.

Dear Dr. (John) Heffner:
My grandfather was transferred to the 8th floor, ICU Unit, from Hampton Regional Medical Center and remained hospitalized at MUSC until his death. After several days, he was transferred to MSICU on the 4th floor.

Although the ultimate battle to save my grandfather’s life was lost, I can say that my family truly believes that every possible effort was made by the doctors and staff at MUSC to save his life.

I do not wish to overlook any physician, nurse, or other hospital personnel who may have cared for my grandfather during his illness, although I know that I will have excluded many who deserve recognition. However, the following is a list of MUSC employees (in no particular order) for whom we are grateful: Charles Strange, M.D.; Jackie Atkinson; Jason Beremdt, M.D.; Meg Carsoner; Charles Stoddard, M.D.; Mandy Maslan Kowski; Melissa Miller, M.D.; Crystal Bailey; Terrell Huggins, M.D.; Suzette Gaines; David Bodimer, M.D.; Brian Mros; David Bonnema, M.D.; Kristen Highland, M.D.

On behalf of my family, I wish to express my gratitude to the entire MUSC family for the care given to my grandfather.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
As the retired president of five teaching hospitals, I know good patient care when I see it. Although the half-life of knowledge in this field is quite short these days, some things just don’t change.

The people in Hollings Cancer Center—nurses, faculty, interns, and residents—all provided professional and compassionate care. From the moment we entered the front door, we felt confident we were in good hands.

When we entered the hospital, we had the same experience. Again, the nursing staff and the house staff anticipated every need. Not incidentally, the physical facilities are almost beyond compare and are maintained immaculately.
