GME Residency Program announces awards

Each year, MUSC residents in the College of Medicine are praised and recognized for their talents, knowledge and experience in providing the highest quality of patient care. Some programs have chosen to recognize these physician-residents with special departmental awards.

The following is a list of exceptional residents who were presented with awards in 2003:

Department of Family Medicine 
Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teacher of the Year Award: Daniel B. Topping, M.D. 

Outstanding Resident of the Year/S.C. Academy of Family Physicians: Lucy G. Davis, M.D.

Chief Resident Award for Outstanding Leadership: Lucy G. Davis, M.D., and Vanessa J. Sturgill, M.D. 

Department of Ophthalmology
Program Director’s Award (The resident who displays behaviors and attitudes that we would most like to see in our own personal physician): Michael Jacobs, M.D.

Best Research Project Award: Michael Jacobs, M.D. 

Vallotton Award for Academic Excellence: Jennifer Merritt, M.D. 

Pierre Gautier Jenkins Award (Selected by the Residents for Unsurpassed Devotion to Resident Education): Aljosen Walker, M.D.

Temporal Bone Dissection Award: Irenee Duncan, M.D.

Department of Pediatrics

  The Department of Urology also receives a $7,500 visiting professor scholarship from Pfizer.

Pfizer Scholars in Endocrinology Grant Program Award: Stacey R. Condren, M.D.

Graduate Periodontics Program
Dean’s Award in the College of Health Professions: Lisa S. Ravenel, M.D.

Resident of the Year: Brad Vincent, M.D.
