Women’s Club adds new items to holiday fundraiser

College is barely back in session, but you’re already wearing your special socks with tiny, embroidered snowmen on them. You may be slightly ahead of schedule for holiday cheer, but the MUSC Women’s Club has you covered.

The Women’s Club began pre-orders for its annual Holiday Scholarship Fundraiser on Sept. 10. In recent years, the fundraiser has been the most prosperous of the club’s numerous charitable activities, but the Women’s Club isn’t satisfied with its past success.

Donna Wilson, Women’s Club member and fundraising spokesperson, said that the Holiday Scholarship Fundraiser’s record success in 2002 has only inspired the club to strive for increased donations in 2003.

“We raised more than $13,000 last year, the most ever,” she said, “and we’re very excited about the new items on this year’s list.”

Indeed, with lofty aspirations for this season’s fundraising, new additions have been made to the order form. A pleasant selection of fresh balsam products are available, ranging from wreathes in three sizes to balsam arches for windows or doors. The balsam products have the added advantage of nationwide UPS delivery on all orders.

This holiday wreath serves as an example of one of many items offered at this year's holiday fundraiser.

The new balsam products will take their place along side the old favorites. Other items available include three colors of poinsettia, eucalyptus wreathes, and curly willow arrangements, as well as an MUSC coffee mug.

All of the money raised by the Holiday Scholarship Fundraiser goes towards the club’s scholarship fund. Each year, the Women’s Club provides nine scholarships for MUSC students. Five students receive $2,000 scholarships, and four students receive $1,000 towards their education.

Order forms and pictures of all the items can be found at the new Web site of the MUSC Women’s Club: http://www.musc.edu/womensclub

In addition to the balsam products, orders of five or more items will also be delivered directly to the purchaser’s household, anywhere in the United States, via UPS. All other orders can be picked up in the Library/Administration building starting Dec. 3.

The MUSC Women’s Club is a charitable organization comprised of professional and administrative officers of the six colleges at MUSC, as well as the spouses of MUSC officers.
