Parking lot to close due to garage construction

Site work for construction of a 700-space parking garage is scheduled to begin in October on the present site of patient parking lot B and the old Charleston High School.

Plans call for the Charleston High School to be renovated and additional square footage to be constructed to serve as administrative and classroom space for the College of Health Professions. The parking garage will be built behind the academic buildings with entrances and exits on both Rutledge and Ashley avenues.

Construction time for the parking garage is estimated to be from 12 to 14 months from the start of construction.  When completed, the garage will provide improved parking services for the core campus and will benefit everyone directly or indirectly. But during the construction period, parking services currently provided in B lot will have to be provided elsewhere.

The last day of parking in B lot will be Friday, Oct. 3. Patients who normally park in B lot will be notified of the closing by the clinics where they receive services.  They will be asked to begin parking in the MUSC visitor garage, entrance at the foot of President Street behind the College of Nursing, on Monday, Oct. 6.

Services for employees who have had after-hours parking privileges (4:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday) in B lot, departments which have held depart-mental permits authorizing use of B lot for official MUSC business, and all other users of B lot will also be assigned to other locations.

September is the time for renewal of all annually-expiring parking authoriza-tions for all campus locations. The closing of B lot coincides with the annual renewal process and allows for the needs of B lot parkers relative to the closing of B lot to be addressed during the renewal process.

Call the Office of Parking Management, 792-3665, if you have questions or need additional information.  Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
