Cards capture holiday spirit

This year, start the holiday season off right with bright and colorful greeting cards designed by MUSC Children’s Hospital patients.

Morris Reese, an 11-year-old asthma and intestinal virus patient from North Charleston, proudly displays his holiday card. His card was sponsored by CB Richard Ellis/Carmody.

Now in its seventh year, the Kids Helping Kids Holiday Card Project will raise funds to support research and programs at the Children’s Hospital. Last year, Kids Helping Kids raised about $40,000.

Each year, the local businesses who sponsor the project select artwork created by Children’s Hospital patients to be included in each pack of cards. Because these sponsors underwrite the cards’ production costs, all proceeds from the project directly benefit the Children’s Hospital. City of Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley is honorary chair for the 1999 card project.

With the help of local graphic designers, this year’s cards have a new look with borders and extra artwork on the inside and back of the cards.

A set of 20 cards and envelopes is $10. Cards are available now and can be ordered by calling 792-2624. Orders should be placed prior to Dec. 1 to ensure delivery. Cards can also be purchased at Jordan Medical Bookstore, the MUSC Wellness Center, BB&T, Bank of America, First Union National Bank, Bank of South Carolina, First Federal of Charleston and South Carolina Federal Credit Union.
