CON
preceptors honored for dedication in education
On Oct. 8 the College of Nursing held a Preceptor Recognition and Appreciation
Reception. The following preceptors were chosen for their dedication in
educating MUSC CON students:
-
Karen McHugh has worked in the MUHA Institute of Psychiatry in various
roles and is the nurse manager of an inpatient unit. She has initiated
course work in the graduate program and will be pursuing her master's degree
in nurse administration.
-
Janine Brenton is the pediatric nurse practitioner in the pediatric clinic
at the Charleston Naval Base. She received her BSN from Mercy College and
her MSN from Emory University. “Students in the pediatric nurse practitioner
Program who have had clinical with her say she is an excellent PNP role
model,” said Georgette Smith, R.N., PNP track coordinator.
-
Edmund Rhett Jr., M.D., has been a pioneer and advocate for nursing practice
and education. In his private practice, he was the first to hire a nurse
educator for his obstetric and gynecological patients. In 1989 he led the
movement to grant nurse-midwives privileges at East Cooper Hospital. Since
that time Rhett has practiced with three nurse-midwives, who also hold
faculty appointments at the CON. CON nurse-midwifery graduate and undergraduate
students continue to rotate through the nurse midwifery practice.
