FRD to sponsor biomedical innovation lecture

The MUSC Foundation for Research Development will sponsor a biomedical innovation lecture at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in  the Storm Eye Institute auditorium.

The lecture, “Drugs and vaccines of the future: Can pharma or biotech make it happen?” will be delivered by Daniel Adams, president and chief executive officer, Protein Sciences Corporation.

Adams has been a pioneer and leader in biotechnology industry formation, management, and investment for more than three decades. In 1975, he co-founded Inco Securities, which made the first outside venture capital investment in Genentech, and he helped build the company.

In 1976, Adams co-founded Biogen and served as president until 1980, when he co-founded and served as CEO of Advanced Genetics Sciences. In 1982, he co-founded Plant Genetic Systems and served as director and chairman of the management committee until its acquisition in 1996. Presently he serves as president and CEO of Protein Sciences Corporation.

He's a frequent biotechnology and pharmaceutical conference speaker, consultant to numerous companies and government bodies, and a director of the MUSC Foundation for Research Development.

A reception will be held immediately following the lecture in the atrium (located behind the auditorium).
