The Department of Human Resources presents free training and development
courses to MUSC employees. The programs are designed to enhance skills,
job performance and job satisfaction.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to noon, room 803 Harborview Office Tower. Instructor:
Jan Brandenburg
How do I pay my employees when they are on FMLA leave? Do you have
an employee out of work due to the birth of a baby? Do you have an employee
whose mother or father is in the hospital and wants to be there with them?
These and other questions will be answered. Participants must be a university
employee to attend as this seminar relates to state policies and procedures.
EEO/Affirmative Action and its Affect on Communication
in the Workplace
Sept. 22, 9 to 11 a.m., room 322 College of Nursing. Instructor:
Mike Vanderhurst
Discrimination claims based on age, race, disability and sexual harassment
are a major concern of MUSC as well as the nation. These forms of discrimination
can affect students, staff, as well as faculty and administrators. Participants
will gain an understanding of the law and how it applies to MUSC employees
and students. The course will also be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 17
in room 403 CON.
Customer Service and Telephone Techniques
Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to noon, room 641 Strom Thurmond. Instructor: Barbara
Bradham
This class covers conducting business over the phone, customer service
and handling unhappy customers, making productive and effective telephone
calls, and listening skills. The course is also offered Nov. 10.
Communication Skills Service: Gender Speak
Oct. 10, 9 to 11 a.m., room 322 College of Nursing. Instructor:
Christine Carpenter-Stewart
The differences in communication styles between men and women will
be discussed.
