MUSC's annual Lose to Win weigh-in set for Jan. 13

It's that time of year again when the holiday parties are winding down, people are making New Year’s resolutions and losers are becoming winners. Yes, that’s right, it is once again time for Lose to Win.

The MUSC dietetic interns are hosting this annual healthy lifestyle/weight loss program. The contest runs for six weeks beginning Jan. 13 and is open to all staff, students and friends of MUSC.

Participants will receive weekly newsletters and are offered six lunchtime classes on topics such as basic nutrition, fad diets, volumetrics, dining-out, recipe substitution, and physical activity.  Two half-hour classes will be available each Thursday, one at 11:30 a.m. and one at 12:15 p.m.  Door prizes are offered weekly during classes and all participants will receive a packet containing healthy recipes, coupons, and free gym passes.

This year the packet will also include a Lose to Win card which can be used to receive 10 percent off Applebee’s “Weight-Watchers” dishes and other menu items denoted as healthy at all locations. This card is good for the six week contest and must be presented at time of purchase to receive the discount.

In addition, there will be drawings for cash prizes at the end of the contest for those participants with perfect class attendance and those who lost at least six pounds in six weeks. Two people have the chance to win $100 each and two others have the chance to win $75 each.

Each participant is required to weigh-in and weigh-out to be eligible for the prize money. The weigh-in will be held  from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 13 and the weigh-out will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24.

Those interested can register prior to Jan. 13 by placing the registration form in one of the drop boxes located at the Harper Student Center, Rutledge Tower Café, MUSC main lobby, the MUSC Cafeteria or e-mail.

Registration and questions may be sent to musclosetowin@yahoo.com. All entries received before Jan. 13 will receive $5 off of the $20 registration fee.
