Holiday card program inspires goodwill

Parents, patients, and Children’s Hospital staff gathered together once
again Nov. 2 to begin the holiday season with the annual Kids Helping
Kids Holiday Card Kick-Off.
Each year, Children’s Hospital past and present patients and their
siblings create magnificent works of art that are proudly displayed on
the front of holiday cards. All proceeds generated from the sale of
those cards go directly to the Children’s Hospital.
“Many of the things that make our Children’s Hospital so wonderful are
provided for through this program,” said Lyndon Key, M.D., chairman of
pediatrics.
Since the fundraiser began 13 years ago, more than $450,000 has been
raised to fund patient and family programs, the Darby Children’s
Research Institute, and pediatrics staff education programs.
Nikki Hardin, editor of Skirt magazine, introduced the artists and
sponsors for the program, while the children displayed their individual
talent for the visitors in St. Luke’s Chapel.
Thanks to 30 area sponsors, these unique cards come at no cost to the
university, and seem to signify the beginning of the holiday season.
Twenty-three young artists produced this year’s batch. Donors may
choose between two packs, each with 15 original cards of assorted
artwork, costing $10.
Cards may be purchased at Belk department stores, Bank of America,
BB&T, First Federal of Charleston, and South Carolina Federal
Credit Union.
